Flange Bearing Units

Mounted units that bolt flat: UCF four-bolt square flanges, UCFL two-bolt oval flanges and UCFB three-bolt flanges, for shafts that meet a frame or a wall.

Three bolt patterns, three answers

A flange unit mounts the bearing against a vertical or frame surface, and the flange shape is chosen against the space and the fixing the frame offers. The UCF is the square four-bolt flange, the standard where the frame takes four fixings in a square pattern. The UCFL narrows the flange to an oval two-bolt form for tight frames and lighter fixings. The UCFB adds a three-bolt variant between them. All three carry the same idea of insert as the pillow block line, so a range can mix base and flange units on one machine against one shaft system.

The bolt pattern is the specification

More flange orders go wrong on the pattern than on the bearing. The inquiry should carry the flange code exactly — UCF, UCFL and UCFB are three different castings against the same shaft, and a copied list that drops a letter reorders the wrong housing. Where the frame is already drilled, the bolt centres from the drawing confirm the pattern; where the frame is being made, the code alone settles it. Buyers also meet a recurring confusion between a flange unit and a flanged ball bearing, which share a word and nothing else; the two are sorted on the compare page.

Materials across the flange line

The flange types run in the mounted range's three housing materials: cast iron for the standard line, stainless for washdown and food duties through the stainless mounted line — its types include SUCF alongside SUCP and SUCT — and thermoplastic in the one-inch plastic set, where UCF205-16 is the flange member. Naming the material and the pattern together gives the full unit: a stainless two-bolt flange unit and a cast iron four-bolt are both flange units, and they are not the same order.

Specifying a flange unit

State the flange code, the shaft size, the housing material and the quantity, in that order. If the unit mounts through a frame wall with the shaft passing through, or into a blind face, one line about the mounting tells the packing and the fixing conversation what it needs. End-of-line and side-frame positions on the same machine often take different patterns at the same shaft size; list them as separate items rather than as one quantity against one code.

Bolt patterns are the detail that decides a flange order: the code carries the pattern, so quote the full code rather than the bore alone, and the unit that arrives bolts onto the holes already drilled.
