Pillow Block Bearings
UCP pillow block units: a bearing insert in a stand-up housing that bolts to a base and raises the shaft line above it, in cast iron and in a one-inch plastic line.

The stand-up unit
A pillow block is the mounted form buyers reach for first: two bolt holes in a foot, a housing that stands the bearing centre above the mounting surface, and an insert that locks to the shaft. The UCP line is the standard form in this range, and its example is the UCP206 — cast iron housing, chrome steel insert, clearance C0, C2 or C3. New to the code system? The code-reading guide decodes the UCP letters and numbers.
| Point | For the UCP line |
|---|---|
| Example unit | UCP206 pillow block unit |
| Housing | Cast iron |
| Insert | Chrome steel |
| Clearance | C0, C2 or C3 |
| Plastic line | UCP205-16, one-inch bore, food industry line |
Cast iron standard, plastic line beside it
The standard UCP delivery is cast iron, and most conveyor, fan and agricultural shaft lines order exactly that. Beside it sits the one-inch plastic line, UCP205-16, positioned for the food industry: a thermoplastic housing at a one-inch bore, for washdown lines where the housing itself must not corrode or shed rust into the product zone. The two lines share a code shape and a shaft logic but not a duty, and the inquiry should name the housing material in words, not leave it inside the code.
Pillow block or flange unit
The standing question in the mounted range is whether the unit bolts down to a base or bolts flat against a frame. The pillow block is the base answer; the flange unit is the frame answer, and the choice is worked through mounting surface, shaft height and space in the comparison guide. A machine that uses both — pillow blocks along a conveyor, flange units on its end frames — orders both from the same inquiry, listed by position.
Specifying a pillow block
State the unit code or the shaft size, the housing material, and the quantity. Shaft size is the dimension that cannot be vague: mounted units are ordered against the shaft they lock to, and metric and one-inch shafts both run through this line, the plastic set being the inch example. If the unit stands in a washdown or outdoor position, say so even when ordering cast iron — the insert and sealing conversation belongs to the order, not to the first failure.
Pillow blocks are also ordered as spares against machines already in service, where the unit on the shaft may carry a competitor's code. Send that code as written on the housing, or the shaft size with the centre height, and the equivalent in this range is identified before the quote rather than after delivery.
